PESTICIDES & MARKETING STANDARDS – CURRENT LEGLISLATIVE CHALLENGES
The fresh produce industry faces a series of significant challenges to meet the requirements of both current and proposed legislation. These impact on all involved in the fruit and vegetable sector and include the recently introduced Maximum Residue Levels (MRL) regulations with their transitional arrangements; proposed Marketing Standards which could repeal standards for the majority of produce; the International Trade Single Window and the PEACH procedure. The latter is involved with procedures for electronic application for certificates from the Horticultural Marketing Inspectorate, used by businesses to apply for certificates of conformity. This electronic procedure was developed as an aid to the efficient clearance of regulated consignments of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, imported into the UK or exported.
This seminar , jointly promoted with the Fresh Produce Consortium, and chaired by their CEO, Nigel Jenney, will comprise a series of presentations from senior people involved involved at DEFRA, FPC and the Rural Payments Agency. They will seek to set out the key issues in a clear manner and discuss how the industry might best tackle them appropriately.
In addition the industry is lobbying against EU proposals to introduce cut-off criteria and substitution of crop protection products which could have a devastating impact on European horticulture, as well as international trade.
The seminar will encourage question and comments from those attending to help shape opinion on important areas covered and affecting the sector. These are important issues and this seminar provides opportunity for you to have your say.
